Giardini Reali Giardini Reali Torino, Piazza Castello 189

They are behind Palazzo Reale and they end in corso san Maurizio. They can be reached from Piazza Castello, going through the entrance of Palazzo Reale. They were planned in 1697 by André Le Nôtre, “father” of the Park of Versailles.

Back to Carlo Emanuele I and Vittorio Amedeo’s time the gardens had already undergone some widening works, but it is mainly in the late 17th century that the gardens reach their splendor with the work of De Marne (who carried out the Le Nôtre’s projects). During Napoleon’s time, the gardens suffered a degradation and was subjected to divestments and plundering: all this ended in 1805, after the gardens were nominated as Imperial Park.
