Via Roma Via Roma Torino, Via Roma

Via Roma joins piazza Castello from the historical Porta Nuova railway station, includes piazza San Carlo and piazza CLN on the way and ends up in piazza Carlo Felice.
The street was made in XVII century by the Umbrian architect Ascanio Vitozzi, thanks to the will of Carlo Emanuele I di Savoia’s who initially called the street Contrada Nuova (New district). The street was dedicated to Rome in 1871 and maintained its baroque’s characteristic. As it was a busy street, a lot of proposals were thought to moderate road traffic. Some of those proposals were considered too futuristic, that’s why, even in the XX century, they chose for a baroque style: except for stretch between piazza San Carlo and Carlo Felice Marcello Piacentini made in rationalist style. From its renovation, is one of the main shopping streets in Torino: elegant cafes, book shops, boutiques but also cheapest shops.
