He is a choir and orchestra conductor, as well as an experienced music pedagogue. After a teachers’ degree he studied music at the conservatories of Geneva and Zurich with clarinet as main instrument. While embarking on his career as a clarinetist, he also began to study choir and orchestra conducting at the Musikhochschule Zürich (with A. Charlet), and later with great masters such as H. Rilling and A. Dorati. He conducted the Laudate Chor Zürich, renowned in Switzerland for its performances of classical oratories on stage. Actually he is the conductor of the Jugendchor Zürich at the Conservatory of Zurich which has won several prices since its foundation in 2005. His abilities to lead people of all ages to the richness and the value of music have led him to be regularly in demand as a guest conductor in international festivals and projects for adults and young people like Europa Cantat Festivals and Zimriya in Jerusalem. Symphony orchestras throughout Switzerland and Germany invited him to realize his projects for a new and young public. Michael Gohl is the director of the music schools Zollikon and Zumikon Zurich and he lectures at the Zürich Hochschule der Künste. He is regularly involved in publications of songbooks for choirs and schools.
