In this Discovery Atelier you will learn how to improvise and tune in to other singers who just like you compose their vocal music on that moment.
Via simple exercises, you will find out how to explore your own musicality and at the same time connect to your fellow singers.
We will work on a special location in Torino and discover how architectural space can give focus and direction to our improvisations
No specific singing background is required, nor do you need previous experience with improvisation to join the workshop. The only thing you need is an open mind towards all types of music and the ability to follow the flow and let yourself be surprised.
After EC2009 in Utrecht, Thomas Johannsen is returning with his ensemble improvisation workshop - now on location.
Thomas Johannsen is a vocal improviser, theatre director and performer who likes to work on the borders between fine art, theatre, dance and music. In Amsterdam, he leads The Genetic Choir, a vocal ensemble that sings instant composition concerts, preferably on unusual, architecturally interesting locations. Recent projects with a.o.RadioKootwijkLive, the SOIL ensemble and The Genetic Choir has brought his musical performances to places like the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Oerol and the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam.
