Richard Filz (AT)

Is one of the most active workshop teachers in Europe with over 600 workshops. He studied drums and latin percussion at the Conservatory/University of Vienna and at the Drummers Collective in New York. Since 2008 he holds a master of arts degree in jazz drumming.
In his professional career he worked with artists like: Threeo, R. Margitza, B. Berg, J. Bowie, B. Mintzer, K. Akagi, E. Kleinschuster, J. Sass, Austrian Jazzorchester, S. Finkel, R. Graf, Macheiner/Barnert/Filz, V. Gernot, U. Kröger, MischaKrausz, C. Zurbrügg. He can be heard on over 80 albums.
Through the work as studio drummer he got in contact with publishers which lead to an offer to write an educational book. His first book Vocal Percussion 1 (2002) earned so much attention that he has published 15 books since then including: Vocal Percussion 1-3 (Universal Edition, 2002/03), Rhythm Coach Level 1 + 2 (UE, 2004/2007), Rap, Rhythm & Rhyme - Vocal Percussion in der Klasse (UE, 2006), Rhythm: MIX 1 +2 - Rhythmisches Klassenmusizieren (Helbling, 2008/2009), Rhythmus für Kids 1 + 2 (UE, 2008/2010), DVD Vocal Percussion Basics (UE, 2009), Magic Groove Box (Helbling, 2010), Body Percussion - Sounds and Rhythms (Alfred, 2011).
Since 1997 he has been teaching at the J.H. Music Academy in Eisenstadt, at the music universities in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg, and has been lecturing on an international scale. Beside his teaching activities he is the leader of three projects: the show act Die Dorftrommler, the multicultural percussion/vocal group Rhythm Xing and the a cappella project Richard Filz & Acoustic Instinct.
