Thierry Lalo (FR)

For his work as a composer, Thierry Lalo (born in Paris in 1965) was the first jazz musician to receive the ' New Musical Talent of the Year ' award in 2002, from the French Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers (SACD) for his jazz opera Ramdam! . He recently received another composition Prize by the same SACD : the ‘Maurice Yvain’ award (2011) for his career.

Acknowledged specialist of vocal jazz in Europe, since scoring Ramdam! Thierry has already written the music for three more jazz operas: Trois contes pour deux batons et une corde (2004), Le Joueur de flûte de Hamelin (2005), and Swing Avenue (2009). His works have been presented in several prestigious places in Paris (French National Opera - Bastille, Théâtre du Châtelet…) and outside Paris (Grand Théâtre de Provence in Aix, Vichy Opera House, Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne, etc). He's also in demand to write arrangements and original compositions for other vocal groups, in France as well as in several other countries (Holland, Germany, Italy...).

His latest and fifth jazz-opera (Pinocchio), commissioned by the CREA, will be performed in 2012 and 2013 in such places as Vichy Opera House, Scène Nationale de Saint-Quentin, and the French National Opera – Bastille.
