He has a varied career as a director, performer and educator. As associate/assistant/revival director, he has worked with companies in his country and abroad including Opera North, English National Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Opera de Lyon, Prague State Opera, Prague National Theatre, Teatro Comunale Bolzano, and the Bregenz Festival. He has worked with renowned directors including D. Pountney, C. Alden, R. Carsen and Y. Oida.
As a performer Rob was a member of two of the world’s leading vocal ensembles, the Swingle Singers and Synergy Vocals. With the Swingles and Synergy Rob toured Europe, Scandinavia, North and South America and the Far East. He sang and recorded world premieres of works by composers like L. Berio, A. Corghi, S. Reich, D. Laing and S. Mackey and worked with orchestras including the BBC Symphony and Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Toronto Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Ensemble Modern, Steve Reich and Musicians, London Sinfonietta and Orchestre National de Lyon.
He has been a guest lecturer and director at the Royal Academy of Music and Trinity College of Music as well as lecturing and running workshops for the Theatre Museum and Rose Bruford College. Rob has regularly devised and led projects for Royal Opera Education and founded and ran the Great Little Opera Company. Future engagements include reviving The Passenger by Weinberg for ENO, Israeli Opera, Houston Grand Opera and New York City Opera, reviving Miss Fortune by Judith Weir for the Royal Opera Covent Garden and working with the Opera Comique in Paris.
