She’s Pianist, Associate Professor in Aural Skills at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo, Norway. She was born in Oslo, Norway.
Gro received her music education in Norway (Advanced Music Teacher Certificate in Piano) and at Oberlin College in Ohio, USA (Piano performance), and has been a soloist with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, and The Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Back in Norway she entered Graduate studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she was awarded her Diploma Degree in Music Theory, specializing in Aural Skills. Ever since graduation she had been employed as Associate Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music, teaching Aural Skills, Listening and Aural Methodology.
Gro has published several textbooks in - and on methods of ear training, and is co-author in the Scandinavian collaborate project, “Listen to Scandinavia – a textbook in the art of Listening”, based on a wide range of works by Nordic composers from the 20th Century. Since 2006 she has been working on an applied research/ development project, Concrescence (initiated and led by Professor/composer Lasse Thoresen), developing methods in teaching of Micro-tonality for Singers, working within musical contexts, based on interaction between listening (Scandinavian vocal folk music, oriental music, overtone singing), imitation and a variety of specially designed exercises.
She has had numerous engagements as lecturer, in addition to an extensive activity leading seminars and workshops for music teachers and conductors in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, USA and South Africa. She has had several engagements in Radio and Television; hosting music programs in the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK); jury member in several music competition programs on TV, and during the 1990’s she was on the Norwegian team in the Nordic TV quiz contest in classical music, Kontrapunkt during three seasons.
